A fifth-wheel hitch changes the way you can use a truck bed. The center of the bed needs to stay clear for towing hardware and safe hitch operation, but straps, tools, recovery gear and everyday cargo still need a place to go. For Ford F-250 and F-350 owners, the most useful organization strategy is usually one that uses the bed sides, keeps the hitch area accessible, and can change configuration when the truck switches between towing and hauling.
What makes a truck bed organizer fifth-wheel friendly?
A fifth-wheel-friendly truck bed organizer should preserve the working space around the hitch instead of permanently filling the center of the bed. Before choosing any system, check the hitch head, rails or ball system, pin-box path, bed height, tonneau-cover hardware and the clearance needed by your exact towing setup.
That makes three features especially useful: vertical storage along the bed sides, removable cargo dividers, and a layout that can return to open-bed use without requiring the entire organization system to be removed.
Use the bed sides instead of fighting for center space
Truck bed MOLLE panels move smaller gear onto vertical surfaces. Recovery straps, tie-downs, pouches and compatible mounts can stay accessible without occupying the same center-bed area needed by a fifth-wheel hitch.
For towing owners, this is different from a full-bed drawer or platform system. Drawers can be excellent enclosed storage, but a permanent full-width structure can conflict with the space and access a hitch setup requires. The right choice depends on whether towing clearance or enclosed storage is the bigger priority.
Why removable dividers matter when you tow
Dividers are useful when the hitch is out and the truck is carrying tools, cases or everyday cargo. The problem with a fixed divider is that the same structure can become an obstacle when the fifth-wheel hitch goes back in.
GRYD GEAR uses removable divider sections that can be taken out and stowed on the rear MOLLE panel. The side organization remains in place while the center bed can be opened for a different load. See the Organize → Remove / Stow → Haul cycle.
Can GRYD GEAR be used with a fifth-wheel hitch?
GRYD GEAR is designed around open-bed flexibility, and the GRYD GEAR site shows a real installed configuration with an Andersen fifth-wheel hitch in the bed. That photo demonstrates one working setup, not universal hitch compatibility.
Clearance must still be confirmed for your exact truck, hitch, mounting system and accessories. Fifth-wheel hardware varies, and a matching truck model and bed length alone do not guarantee clearance. Before launch, use the Ford Super Duty fitment page and send your exact hitch information through GRYD GEAR support if you need a configuration reviewed.
A practical towing-day organization strategy
- Keep the hitch envelope clear: Do not place cargo or organization hardware where it can interfere with hitch movement, the pin box or required turning clearance.
- Move small gear to vertical storage: Use side MOLLE surfaces for straps, pouches and compatible accessories that do not need to live on the bed floor.
- Stow removable sections before towing: If a divider is not needed for the towing configuration, remove and secure it before the trip.
- Keep heavy cargo low and secured: Any cargo carried while towing should be properly restrained and should not interfere with the hitch.
- Re-check every accessory combination: Bedliners, covers, toolboxes, hitch rails and other accessories can change available clearance.
Ford F-250 and F-350 short-bed fitment
The current GRYD GEAR launch configuration is for 2017-2025 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks with the 6.75-foot short bed. Short-bed fifth-wheel setups have their own clearance considerations, so always follow the hitch and trailer manufacturer's requirements for your specific combination.
For broader cargo-management options, read the F-250/F-350 truck bed organization guide and the truck bed MOLLE panel guide.
Keep the truck useful between towing trips
A towing truck still has to work when the trailer is parked. A modular system is most useful when it can organize daily cargo without turning the bed into a permanent single-purpose setup. That is the reason GRYD GEAR combines MOLLE storage with removable, stowable divider sections.
